Description
Lovely vintage Royal Staffordshire Dinnerware by Clarice Cliff "Tonquin" design, red transferware, set of 3 bone dishes. Dishes approx 6 3/4" wide. Dishes have no cracks or repairs, one of them has a couple tiny stains and a small patch of glaze missing on the back of the dish, the other two are excellent. Beautiful condition, colors are bright and clear. This makers mark was present for Clarice's work between 1950 and 1960.The artist behind Royal Staffordshire’s *Tonquin* pattern is Clarice Cliff who is regarded as one of the most influential ceramics artists of the 20th Century. She was born in England in 1899. At the age of 13, Cliff began working in the pottery industry. In 1916 she moved to the A.J. Wilkinson firm where she worked as a modeler. In time, Cliff’s wide array of skills were recognized and she was given her own studio.
